John
D. Gilmore, of Hackensack, died on Wednesday, June 28, 2006,
at Valley Hospital in Ridgewood at the age of 74 years. He was a native
of Tuam, County Galway, Ireland and came to this country in 1948. Prior
to retiring in 1980, he was a police lieutenant on the New York City
Police Department where he worked for twenty years. Prior to that, he
worked as a bank teller and helped develop a tax business. After
retiring from the police department, John sought careers in real estate
and in criminal justice in the Bergen County Criminal Justice System.
John was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a charter member and
past president of the Bergen Irish Association of Dumont, Past President
of St. Joseph's Football League, a member of the Criminal Justice
Bureau, the Lieutenant Benevolent Association of New York, a parishioner
of Holy Trinity R. C. Church of Hackensack, where he was a charter
member and treasurer of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a member of the
Usher's Society, and a member of the Holy Trinity Holy Name Society. He
also was a member of the Knights of Columbus Trinity Council # 747 of
Hackensack. He is survived by his wife Nora Farrell Gilmore, his
children, John and Deirdre Gilmore, Noreen and Joe LaFergola, Eileen and
John Lanza, Tom and Laura Gilmore, and Dan Gilmore, 12 grandchildren,
four sisters, Bridie Gaughan, Peggy Gilligan, Julie Whalen, and Kathy
Garrahy, and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will
be offered on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity
R. C. Church, 34 Maple Avenue, Hackensack. Burial will follow at George
Washington Memorial Park in Paramus. Visiting will be on Friday from 2 -
4 and 7 - 9 PM. Memorial donations to either the American Cancer
Society, 20 Mercer Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601 or the National
Parkinson Foundation, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, New York, NY
10163 would be appreciated.
