HARRY G. GOODING JR. ,
age 87, a life long resident of
Hackensack and WWII survivor died September 2, 2009. Beloved
husband for 63 years to Marion (nee) Vreeland; devoted son of Harry
Sr. and Lucia; loving father of Harry G. Gooding III and his wife
Barbara, Barbara J. Gooding and Linda Ottstadt and her husband John.
Cherished grandfather of Lisa Crooks and her husband Rory, Steven
Gooding, Kristen Tinson and her husband, Eric, and Melissa, John and
Christopher Ottstadt. A proud great grandfather to Ryan and Daniel
Crooks and Clara Tinson. Dearest brother to Ruth Lydecker and her
predeceased husband Charles, uncle to Marilyn Bowen and her husband
Ralph, Darien Newlander and her predeceased husband John. Harry was
the last surviving member of the original 5 veterans who salvaged
and brought the USS LING 297 to Hackensack as a memorial to all men
lost on submarines during WWII. He was a life long member as
Captain of Historic Naval Ships Association, Past President of
Historic Naval Ships of the World, Inc., full member of the United
States Power Squadron with the rank of Junior Navigator, the
Palisades Power Squadron, the Submarine Memorial Association, VFW,
American Legion, and the Bergen County Railroad Club. In lieu of
flowers donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church
located at 64 Passaic Street, Hackensack, N.J. 07601. Friends and
family are invited to gather Friday, September 11, 2009 from 10:30
a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the G. Thomas Gentile Funeral Service, 397 Union
Street, Hackensack, N.J. 07601. A memorial service will follow at
this location at 12:45. Inurnment will be in George Washington
Memorial Park Cemetery located at 234 Paramus Road, Paramus, N.J. at
2 p.m. with a reception held at the First Presbyterian Church in
Fellowship Hall at 3 p.m.
