SALVATORE R. GUERRA,
of Ridgefield Park, New Jersey, the son of Josephine and Rafael
Guerra, grew up in Bergen County. After serving in Japan in the Army
Air Corp during World War II he settled in Hackensack with his then
wife Gertrude (Deublein, predeceased in 1961), where he raised his
five children, Carolyn (predeceased in 1988) James, Susan, Linda and
Sally. Sal started his own furniture repair and restoration business
and operated his shop on Passaic Street in Hackensack for many
years. His fastidious attention to detail and his creative spirit
were perfect qualities for someone engaged in such meticulous work
as furniture design and repair. His attention to detail carried over
to his passion for automobiles. Sal possessed innate skills in
working on cars, so much so that he was able to disassemble a Jaguar
and put it back together again. For many years he was a member of
the local Jaguar Club, where he extended his fervor for repairing
Jaguars to showing them at regional and local meets, even on
occasion trying his hand at racing his cars at Lime Rock Race Track
in Connecticut. Despite these interests nowhere was his zest for
life and love as evident as when he was with family. Sal was very
giving and nothing pleased him more than to be surrounded by his
grandchildren and great grandchildren. Sal is predeceased by his
second wife Marie (Manthey) and he spent the final years of his life
in suburban Boston at the Scandinavian Living Center, where his many
friends there will remember him as an affable, friendly sort who was
always willing to help others.
