JOSEPH F. MELBER, formerly of
Hackensack, died on Sunday, February 28, 2010, at his home, at
the age of 79 years. Born in Little Ferry, he lived in
Hackensack and Port Richey, Florida, prior to coming to East
Rutherford two months ago. Before retiring in 1987 to Florida he
was a Police Officer for the Hackensack Police Department for 25
years where he served as President of PBA Local # 9. He also
served as President of the PBA Mutual Aid Society in 1977.
Before becoming a Police Officer he worked at S. Goldberg & Co.
in Hackensack. He served his country during the Korean War in
the United States Army being honorably discharged in 1954. He
was also a member of the Hackensack Moose Lodge. Beloved husband
of Gloria (nee Curley) and the late Elizabeth (nee Oliger).
Devoted father of Joseph W. Melber of Seaside Heights, Kimberly
Faulkner of California, Ruth Stapel of East Rutherford, Richard
Melber of River Edge and the late Keith Melber. Cherished
grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Prayer Service
on Wednesday, March 3rd at 10:00 AM, Reverend Eugene Hazewski
officiating. Burial will follow at
George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. Visiting will be on
Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Memorial donations to the
Hospice Program, HUMC, 30 Prospect Ave., Hackensack, NJ 07601,
would be appreciated.
