John
J. Montenegro, of South Hackensack,
died on Saturday, May 5, 2007, at his home, after a long illness at
the age of 83 years. Prior to retiring, he was Fire Inspector for the
Hackensack Meadowlands Commission and Chief of the South Hackensack
Fire Prevention Bureau for many years. He was a Volunteer member of
South Hackensack Fire Company # 2 and served as a two year Chief
during his years of service to the community. An Army Veteran of World
War II, he was a member of the Hackensack Moose Lodge and the South
Hackensack Republican Club. He is survived by his two daughters,
Frances Borg of Washington Township and Ginger Montenegro Hadley of
Randolph, Massachusetts, two grandchildren, Stephanie and Christopher
Borg, two sisters, Josephine Garofalo of South Hackensack, and
Carmella Gaeta of Wyckoff and a brother, Anthony Montenegro of
Florida. He was predeceased by his parents Giovanni and Francesca
Nesci Montenegro, two sisters, Helen Garofalo and Virginia Jury, and
two brothers, Louis Montenegro and Arthur Montenegro Sr. He is also
survived by many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will
be offered on Wednesday, May 9th at the Church of the Immaculate
Conception, 49 Vreeland Avenue Hackensack, at 12:00 Noon with burial
following at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Hackensack. Visiting will be on
Monday evening from 7 - 9 PM and Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM.
Memorial donations to Hospice or the American Cancer Society would be
appreciated.
