REVEREND FRED
VANDERMEER,
86 of Schaumburg,
Illinois, formerly of Hackensack passed away peacefully on Monday,
June 13, 2011 with his family at his side. He was a veteran of the
United States Navy serving his country proudly during WW II as an
aviation machinist. He received his Master of Divinity degree from
New York Theological Seminary and served two Presbyterian churches
in Colorado before returning to New Jersey where he was the Pastor
of Third Reformed Church and Pastor Emeritus of First Reformed
Church both in Hackensack, Fred was also a member of the V.F.W. Post
and Chaplin of the American Legion Post #55 in Hackensack. Pastor
Fred as most people called him, had a love for people and a love for
God. He gave generously to those in need and loved to invite people
to church. He was a great storyteller and always had time for a
good joke. He retired from ministry in 2009 and moved to Illinois
where he lived with his daughter. His final years were spent making
new friends and becoming an avid reader. He felt blessed by his
family, wonderful friends, and God’s grace. Loving father of Sherry
TenClay and her husband Roger of Albuquerque, NM, Reverend Mark
VanderMeer and his wife Evie of Frederick, MA and Christy Weygandt
and her husband Robert Honcoop of Schaumburg, Illinois. Cherished
grandfather of Michael and David TenClay, Joshua and Aaron
VanderMeer and Andrew, Brittany and Rebecca Weygandt, Derek and
Danae Honcoop, and longtime friend and companion Sue Zeigler. A
Memorial Service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2011 at the Third
Reformed Church, 67 South Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, from 1:00 –
2:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 2:00 PM. Internment will
follow at 3:30 PM the Historic Cemetery at First Reformed Church, 42
Court Street, Hackensack. Pastor Fred’s heart was to help people who
are poor or homeless. If you would like to honor his memory please
