HAROLD VASIOS,
of
Hackensack, passed away on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the age of
93 years. Beloved husband of the late Hazel Bratt Vasios. Devoted
father of H. Barry Vasios and his wife Cheryl of New York City and
James Vasios and his wife Joanne of Warren. Cherished grandfather of
Alison, Carrie, Megan, Ryan and Michael. Dearest brother of the late
George, Helen and Evelyn. Loving brother in law of Erna Vasios of
Boston. Harold was born in Paterson, NJ on August 9,1917, the son of
Samuel and Ruth Martin Vasios. A graduate of Hackensack High School
in 1936, he played varsity baseball, football, and was captain of
the basketball team and played on basketball and baseball league
championship teams. He attended Bergen Junior College and was a
former member of the National Association of Approved Basketball
Officials. He retired in 1981 after 32 years as a Violations Clerk
and Municipal Court Clerk for the City of Hackensack. Prior to
working for the City of Hackensack, he worked for the Veterans
Administration and was in charge of the Paterson office. He was
an Army Veteran of World War II and served in Alaska. He also served
as Chairman and Commissioner of the Hackensack Housing Authority.
For over 67 years he was a member of the Capt. H. B. Doremus Post #
55 American Legion Hackensack and former past Commander, Vice
Commander, Life Member and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. A life
member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge # 658, Hackensack, he was a member
of the Bergen County Historical Society and the Board of Trustees
for Maple Grove Park Cemetery. For over 68 years he was a member of
the Second Reformed Church. The funeral service will be on
Wednesday, February 9th, at the funeral home, at 11:00 AM, Rev.
Dennis Wilcox officiating, with burial following at Maple Grove Park
Cemetery. Visiting will be on Tuesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. In
lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Second Reformed Church,
436 Union Street, Hackensack, NJ 07601 or the Salvation Army would
be appreciated
