HAZEL
BRATT VASIOS a
lifelong resident of
Hackensack,
died on Friday, October 10, 2008, at the age of 89 years. Beloved
wife of Harold Vasios. Devoted mother of H. Barry Vasios and his
wife Cheryl of New York City and James A. Vasios and his wife
Joanne of Warren. Cherished grandmother of Alison, Megan,
Carrie, Ryan and Michael. Dearest sister of the late Warren Bratt.
Loving sister in law of George Vasios and his wife Erna of
Whiting. Hazel will be remembered for her intelligence, wit, and
generosity. Before retiring in 1982, she was the Treasurer of the
Hackensack Mutual Savings and Loan Association, where she worked
for 37 years. She was a member of the Second Reformed Church of
Hackensack, Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #
55 of Hackensack, and member of the Hackensack Women's Club. An
avid reader of history and an amateur genealogist, she was also a
member and trustee of the Bergen County Historical Society, the
Genealogical Society of Bergen County, former treasurer of the D.
A. R., David Demarest Chapter, charter member of David Ackerman
Descendants, former member of the Huguenot Society of New Jersey,
and the Society of Descendants of the Colonial Clergy. Hazel
graduated from Hackensack High School in 1936, and Donovan
Business College in 1937. After her retirement, she attended
Fairleigh Dickinson University for two years. The funeral service
on Tuesday, October 14th, at the funeral home at 11:00 AM,
Reverend Dennis Wilcox, officiating with burial following at Maple
Grove Park Cemetery. Visiting will be on Monday from 2 - 4 and 7 -
9 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations to either the Second
Reformed Church of Hackensack or the Salvation Army of Hackensack
would be appreciated.
